Home Storage Solutions

Here are our top tips to help declutter and tidy up this April

Spring brings around a sense of ‘new’. Part of that change of seasons brings up the want for many to declutter and Spring clean. Storage doesn’t have to be a bulky add on to your home decor, it can actually be stylish!

Here are Sassy Property Styling’s top tips for home storage solutions that don’t compromise on style;

Mixing open and closed storage

Mixing open and closed storage is a good way to get the best of both worlds - in practicality and aesthetics. Open shelves are an ideal storage solution for books and frequently used items.

In contrast, closed storage is a great idea for ‘uglier’ items such as charging cables, old laptops, or glassware that you only bring out on special occasions and want to keep safely hidden away!

Storage can be vertical

When we think of storage, we often think of horizontal things: cupboards, boxes, or similar. For a change (and to maximise your use of space), think vertically!

If you’re lucky enough to have lovely high ceilings, higher shelves or storage units are an easy way to make the most of your space.

In addition, vertical storage units can add a great sense of scale to any room.

Don’t be afraid to add colour!

Storage units don’t have to be the traditional wood, white, or plastic. An easy way to get colour into your storage is to add it to the backs of your shelves, inside cupboard doors, or go bold and paint the whole storage unit!

Good luck with your tidy up and please share me your project over social media and  don't forget to like and follow us at  sassy on

The 3 S’s of Interior Décor

It can be hard to know where to begin with your interior décor. Here are three areas to get started, and where you can begin with each of them.

Staircases

Staircases are often a focal point of our homes without us even realising! They can be made more exciting with just a few tips to help bring your home’s interior to life.

Have you considered colour? Many opt for neutral décor, but a staircase is somewhere you can really add a creative flair - why not go wild with this year's ‘in’ colour, green, or add a garish carpet runner?

If you’re building your own home, a spiral staircase is not only a wonderful design feature but can also save space and give downstairs rooms a sense of height.

If stripping it back is more your style, why not add an industrial look by opting for a trendy yet timeless metal bannister?

Storage

Storage: necessary, but difficult to keep organised let alone as a part of your interior décor! It’s a lot harder to get right than you may think - and the type of storage used can affect the way a room feels quite drastically!

Here's Sassy's top 3 tips to get the most out of your storage...

Mix open and closed storage to make the most of space saving. Open shelves are great for books and frequent use items, but don't work so well for less aesthetic items like charging cables, old laptops and miscellaneous items that don’t require frequent use; so these items are best kept behind closed doors.

Have you considered thinking vertically when it comes to storage? If you have high ceilings - use them! Not only can you store more things in taller units, or higher shelves, but they can add a great sense of scale to any room.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to add colour! The backs of shelves, and insides of open cupboards are a great place to add a splash of colour, to create a bright and playful home in every area.

Kitchen Interior Décor Trends 2022

kitchen

/ˈkɪtʃɪn,ˈkɪtʃ(ə)n/

a room or area where food is prepared and cooked.

Oxford Languages

They’re where friends and families come together, where delicious meals are made, and, most importantly, cups of teas are brewed.

Interior design platform Houzz has summed up what its users are searching for when it comes to their kitchens décor this year.

Colours and details

Shades of green are a real trend for 2022; from green accessories to all out green walls, and kitchens are no different. The nature inspired hue is a fan favourite, with sage, forest, and dark green rising in popularity.

In contrast to the typical white seen in kitchens, dark details are seeing an uplift in popularity. Black kitchen worktops and black pendant lights have more than doubled in popularity since last year. A Sassy recommendation is to mix black marble surfaces with striking gold features for a luxe feel.

Cosy Country

With many having escaped city life and runaway to the countryside during lockdown, a more rustic design style has increased in popularity. According to Houzz & Homes’ survey, 67% are keen to move from a suburban area to a countryside location.

Kitchen interior design trends reflect this, with ‘country kitchen’ as a search term rising by 54% in 2021. Panelling, beams, and exposed bricks are all features which have also shot up in décor popularity.

Speckles & Terrazzo

Terrazzo surfaces have been rising in popularity, spreading from London underground floors and into our homes.

The sparkling speckled design has been incorporated into kitchens far and wide as a splashback feature to clean white cabinets.

Stand out spaces

As well as kitchens being more multifunctional than ever (hello home office), added character has proved popular.

Searching for ‘unusual kitchens’ has more than doubled since the previous year, and there’s been a renewed confidence in clashing colours, bright patterns, and injecting personality into our kitchens.

THREE Interior Design Trends for 2022

This is a subtitle for your new post

trend ;

a current style or preference. Merriam Webster Dictionary

Interior design trends are always fun to keep up with, and 2022 is no different. To find out what to expect this year, and how you can incorporate it into your interior design read on.

DIY, Upcycling, and Sustainability

Sustainability is a huge interior design trend for 2022 as people become more and more eco-conscious. This trend ties in with the DIY and upcycling trend - and rightfully so. Rather than adding to landfill, upcycling your current furniture and décor is a fun DIY project that benefits the planet and your bank account.

Why not upcycle your décor by giving it a new lease of life through a lick of paint, or reuse fabrics from around the house to give cushions an upgrade?

If you really do need new materials, we recommend shopping around - designer furniture and sofas are instantly recognisable but often costly. Look for high street brands selling similar sofas for a fraction of the price.

Cottagecore

Being based in Cumbria, Sassy Property Styling often sees many delightful cottages. In 2022, this is extending as the key trend cottagecore. ‘Cottagecore’ symbolises an idealized rural life, but what does it mean in terms of interior design?

Think familiar florals that are reminiscent of the English countryside, chalk painted surfaces, and organic textures such as wood to recreate a rural feeling indoors.

Shades of Green

Despite Pantone’s colour of the year being a blue-purple hue, it’s actually shades of green that are a key interior design trend for 2022. From sages to deep greens, the trend is thought to have arisen as a result of nature becoming more and more important to us during lockdown.

Green, a peaceful colour, helps bring the outside in. Whether it’s a velvet green pillow, muted green walls, or something else entirely - a shade of green is a must in 2022.

here is a couple of examples where we at Sassy have just used the green tones -

Newley  refurbished bathroom with painted panelling in Dulux Proud Peacock to give a luxury as stylish finish

This nice open kitchen and dinning room was makeover has a lovely hint of green tones and has hat cottage style

with Voyage roller blind,

The Green accent across the two rooms , from the painted on the chairs ( love a bit of up cycling too)and the cooker hood surround are Dulux Colour -Overly Olive, and the wall are in White Cotton.

also to have continuity  we also painted the Conservatory next door too is also in the Overly Olive and it has transformed it.

These picture are work in progress as see the tape as about to hit the holiday home market in February 2022.

Newley painted wooden panelling to match in with other rooms

Its really is a nice mix of colours which works well...

Easy ways to add a last minute festive touch to your home

Festive

of, relating to, or suitable for a feast or festival a festive occasion The house looks festive during the holidays....

Merriam Webster Dictionary

If you’ve left the Christmas decorations until the last minute, don’t worry! There’s plenty of small, easy yet effective things you can do to give your home a festive feel. Read on to find out how to turn your home from Scrooge’s lair into a Christmas fairytale.

Easy festive touches for parties

Christmas parties' best friend is tinsel - and it’s not just for the tree. Adorn your banister, shelves, and other surfaces with red, green, and gold tinsel for a festive touch that’s quick and easy.

Dig out your fairy or Christmas lights and add them to door frames, mirrors, and mantels to give everyone that festive twinkle.

If you want to add the wow factor - and don’t mind hoovering after! - fake snow can turn your home into a winter wonderland without the chill.

Old is gold

Recycling and upcycling is not only good for the environment, but it can also save you loads of time and money.

Save splurging on new decorations but repurposing the old - the star that used to adorn the top of your tree can now act as a feature for the mantelpiece.

Put a bow on it

Simple items like cushions can be made extra festive with the addition of ribbons and bows. Why not save the ribbons and bows from this year’s gifts as an eco-friendly decoration for next year?

Sassy recommends sticking with the colours of your existing Christmas theme for a cohesive look.

Bowls and Vases

Over the years, people’s Christmas decorations boxes often get bigger - with many baubles and other decorations left to collect dust year after year.

Instead of leaving them in the box for another year, use excess baubles by placing them in bowls and vases as a modern centrepiece.

Hygge 5 Tips to create a cosy home that are quick and simple to do.

As the night draw in and we feel like staying home in front of the fire here is my  Hygge Tips to create this in your home ......

5 super quick tips to create this style in your home this autumn.

Hygge, a Danish word, and concept, which acknowledges a feeling of cosiness and comfort, has exploded in popularity in recent years. The transitioning of seasons offers the opportunity to reassess your living space to create a warm and relaxing environment. Here are out top tips to incorporate hygge into your home...

Tip one   - It is very good idea to make your home feel harmonious and tranquil by sticking to a neutral, natural colour palette this season

Tip Two - As the night grow shorter and we start to switch on the lamps and placing fur , velvet throw and adding textured cushion to make the place cosier which is a real Scandi way ,so I would suggest Focus on senses through touch across your home as really make it feel wonderful.

Tip Three - During the day, make the most of natural light , light walls and pull back window dressing , raise up blinds and let the light in.

Tip Four - At night, use candles rather than harsh artificial lighting as there is nothing more welcoming and cosy than sitting by candle light,

plus there is a wide verity of tin , glass jars around with seasonal fragrance and armours  here we show Lavender and Linden ( shame your are not able to smell it!!)

finally, Tip 5 -  one of the great and satisfying ideas of Hygge is the idea to bring in from  the outside ideally from your garden or hedge rows  or woods near by  are  plants and  flowers inside , which really bring a lovely feel and small to your home  and also texture too.

How to put the fun in function for your children's bedroom

Children's Bedrooms: What are they for?

When it comes to considering children’s bedrooms, it’s important to remember that they’re often a multi-functional space. Children rest, play, and often do their school work from their bedroom. For these reasons, children’s bedrooms need to be functional but still fun to reflect their playful nature.

Key considerations for children’s bedrooms include space, furniture (for example, is a desk a requirement? If so, how big?), and design. When it comes to adding in the fun, there’s plenty of practical things which can be given a playful upgrade.

Think about fun bedding, bright pencil pots to go on the desk, and affordable wall prints which can be easily switched a few years down the line.

Children’s Bedrooms and Design to Grow with them

If you don’t want to keep updating your children’s bedroom as they grow, it’s a good idea to consider a more timeless design that can grow with them. There’s always the option of updating the room with more affordable alternatives to a full renovation, such as new bedding, pillows, or other small accessories.

This modern kids bedroom from Wayfair demonstrates a bright feature wall that can be enjoyed for years to come. Source: https://www.wayfair.co.uk/shop-the-look/slp/-wayfair-home-photo-id291313

Contrary to popular belief, brighter colours can stand the test of time just as much as white paint. By recommending a ‘timeless design’, we’re not suggesting that your children’s bedroom has to be bland. Rather, reconsider if having Peppa Pig wallpaper will really still be as appealing when they’re a teenager!

Inspiration and Ideas for your Children’s Bedrooms

We’ve rounded up some of Wayfair, IKEA, and Cuckoo Land’s bedroom ideas to give you inspiration.

Three tips for getting the most out of tiny outdoor spaces

As we head into the warmer months, more and more people like to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine, alfresco dining, and outdoor dining. Realistically, many homeowners and renters across the UK have small outdoor spaces which they can struggle to make the most out of.

Tiny outdoor spaces may be an outdoor balcony, a small patio, or even a small garden to call your own.

Here are Sassy Property Styling’s three tips for making the most out of tiny outdoor spaces.

1. Space isn’t just horizontal, it’s vertical, too.

When it comes to small spaces, our focus is often drawn to the flat. The rest of the space around us, such as walls and fences, is underutilised.

Outdoor spaces can be accentuated with a vertical garden wall. You can purchase wall planters from well known brands such as Homebase and B&Q. For a more sustainable and rustic look, reusing wooden pallets or an old ladder dressed with plant pots is a great idea.

2. Foldable Furniture

British Summer time is often unpredictable, and by that, it often means that it’s going to rain. Rather than splurging on expensive patio furniture which will only be used for a few weeks of the year, foldable chairs and tables are a pragmatic way to get the best of both worlds.

When it’s hot and you’d like to relax outside, a couple of foldable chairs and a table is all you need. When you’d need space for other outdoor activities, or room for kids to play, they can be safely tucked away and out of sight, giving you a versatile solution to make the most of the space you have.

3. Mirror, mirror on the wall..

Create the illusion of space by adding a mirror to your outdoor space. The bigger the mirror, the larger the space it’ll appear to create. Depending on how much room you have to play with, you can carefully consider the angle of the mirror to determine what will make the most of your tiny outdoor space.

Make sure to use something strong and sturdy when attaching your mirror to the wall. That will ensure your mirror stays up regardless of the British weather.

Final Thoughts

The most important thing is that your outdoor space is a reflection of you. Don’t be afraid to play with the space to find out what works best for you - both style wise and living wise.

Your home staging expert Top TEN Tips to Selling Your Home

Using a home staging company needn’t be expensive and help you sell your home

research shows it “Sells Faster for more money too”.

With latest research out for 2021 from Right move saying its going to be a very good year indeed to sell you house I wanted to add my top ten savvy  preparing to sell tip for you as...

First impressions count and buyers make up their minds in the first few minutes of a viewing. These days, the property market is like internet dating – full of 'armchair browsers' who choose what they want to know more about purely on the basis of what’s online. Follow these tips to make sure yours is the house they fall in love with!

1. De-clutter
Buyers invariably look for more space and they need to see that your property has plenty of room to store their own ‘stuff’. Pack away anything that creates visual clutter – too many ornaments, the collection of fridge magnets, piles of toys and excess pieces of furniture.

ANNE'S TIP: You’re moving anyway so it makes sense to start packing things away now and create that much-desired feeling of space and calm. Every room should have a purpose too as its simply no good have a junk room.

This before image show a classic junk room. then a stylish bedroom - which would you look twice at on line...

2. Depersonalise your home
Help a buyer visualise themselves living in your home by removing any overly personal items such as family photos, children’s drawings and holiday souvenirs. They all give a powerful message “This is MY home”, and a buyer will find it difficult to imagine their own possessions in your home.

ANNE'S TIP: Family photos are fine in the bedroom but keep them to a tasteful minimum.

3. Add ‘come on in' kerb appeal
Potential buyers will often do a ‘drive by’ before deciding to arrange a viewing so creating kerb appeal is vital. Tidy your garden, repaint the front door if necessary, make sure that curtains are symmetrical and windowsills are free of clutter.

ANNE'S TIP: Add some colourful plants in pots or hanging baskets by the front door. Make your property look as instantly inviting and welcoming as possible so potential buyers want to come in and see more.

4. Make your entrance entrancing
Once you’ve got them through the front door, buyers need to instantly feel ‘at home’. Help them literally 'see’ themselves in your home by placing a mirror in the hallway - this will also help introduce additional light into what is often the darkest part of the house.

ANNE'S TIP: Take all coats, shoes and sports bags out of this area as a cluttered hallway can set a buyer thinking that there isn’t enough storage space in the property

5. Do that DIY - now!
Any unfinished DIY jobs ring alarm bells for potential buyers as they send a subliminal message that your property could be ‘maintenance heavy’ and will alert them to look out for other outstanding jobs. This could be used against you to negotiate a lower price.

6. Clean until it gleams
It can’t be stressed enough that a spotless home always creates a good impression and reinforces the message that the property is well maintained.

Clean the kitchen, bathroom and loo until they sparkle, polish the windows and make sure that the home smells fresh.

ANNE'S TIP: Pet and smoke odours are big turnoffs for buyers.

7. Define the space
If you’ve got three bedrooms they must be presented as three bedrooms – not two bedrooms and a box room crammed with clutter. And if you’ve got a sitting room and a separate dining area they need to be presented as such and should not be seen a living room-cum-kids’ playroom or ironing room.

ANNE'S TIP: Buyers are aspirational and need to be shown the lifestyle they could lead if they were to move into your property, which is likely to include entertaining (even if they end up having TV dinners rather than dinner parties!)

8. Redecorate where necessary
It can be hard to justify spending time and money on a property that you’re about to leave, but if it’s neutrally decorated, well-presented and inviting you can add thousands to your asking price.

9. Set the stage to sell
If you really want to see your property through the eyes of someone else take photos of each room from different angles and then take a cold hard look at them. It will be pretty obvious what needs to change. Today’s buyers are attracted to clean, bright, clutter-free, co-ordinated and spacious environments with aesthetic appeal.

ANNE'S TIP: Buy a few interiors magazines as they give good examples of what people find attractive today.

10. Mentally move out
This is perhaps the most important piece of advice. You’ve decided to move so do all you can to help yourself achieve a quick and profitable sale. Remember, living in a property that is for sale is not the same as living in a home you’ve settled in so don’t worry if the new look of your property is not to your taste – it doesn’t matter, you’re moving out anyway!

ANNE'S TIP: An initial consultation with a home stager need not be expensive (average charge is  £295-£395) for a verbal consultation with room by room recommendations and could be a cost effective investment.

Putting the wow factor in to a house…making it stand out from the crowd.

Good luck and let me know how you get on…
