Three tips for getting the most out of tiny outdoor spaces

As we head into the warmer months, more and more people like to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine, alfresco dining, and outdoor dining. Realistically, many homeowners and renters across the UK have small outdoor spaces which they can struggle to make the most out of.

Tiny outdoor spaces may be an outdoor balcony, a small patio, or even a small garden to call your own.

Here are Sassy Property Styling’s three tips for making the most out of tiny outdoor spaces.

1. Space isn’t just horizontal, it’s vertical, too.

When it comes to small spaces, our focus is often drawn to the flat. The rest of the space around us, such as walls and fences, is underutilised.

Outdoor spaces can be accentuated with a vertical garden wall. You can purchase wall planters from well known brands such as Homebase and B&Q. For a more sustainable and rustic look, reusing wooden pallets or an old ladder dressed with plant pots is a great idea.

2. Foldable Furniture

British Summer time is often unpredictable, and by that, it often means that it’s going to rain. Rather than splurging on expensive patio furniture which will only be used for a few weeks of the year, foldable chairs and tables are a pragmatic way to get the best of both worlds.

When it’s hot and you’d like to relax outside, a couple of foldable chairs and a table is all you need. When you’d need space for other outdoor activities, or room for kids to play, they can be safely tucked away and out of sight, giving you a versatile solution to make the most of the space you have.

3. Mirror, mirror on the wall..

Create the illusion of space by adding a mirror to your outdoor space. The bigger the mirror, the larger the space it’ll appear to create. Depending on how much room you have to play with, you can carefully consider the angle of the mirror to determine what will make the most of your tiny outdoor space.

Make sure to use something strong and sturdy when attaching your mirror to the wall. That will ensure your mirror stays up regardless of the British weather.

Final Thoughts

The most important thing is that your outdoor space is a reflection of you. Don’t be afraid to play with the space to find out what works best for you - both style wise and living wise.
